This is a true story: There was a church that did a lot of weddings. It was a service and it exposed new people to the church who never would have walked through the doors otherwise. So the church decided not to charge very much for their services. Just enough to pay for the extra cleaning and to compensate the minister for her time. $100 was all it cost and it was a beautiful church with a long center isle and lots of places inside and on the grounds to take pictures. But even though it got new people through the doors, they never came back. Even worse people didn’t seem to respect the church. There were acts of negligence/vandalism. People wouldn’t pay attention at the rehearsal. And sometimes they would start partying before the ceremony and come drunk. So the church decided to say that having so many weddings wasn’t working for them, so the figured they would get rid of them by upping the price. $1500 was now what it would cost to have a wedding at that church. The number of weddings more than doubled, never again did anyone ever disrespect the church’s property, everyone was suddenly on time and paying full attention at rehearsals, no one was ever drunk again at weddings and they started to get new members from people who were exposed to the church through weddings. When the church started making people pay more they began to value the church more.
The value you put on something is reflected in how much you pay for it. You pay a lot for it and it is something valuable and important. Pay a little and it shows you don’t value it. So in this view what is Goddess Haylee worth?
The word worship and worthy have the same root. Worship literally means worth-ship. The greatest act of worship then is to sacrifice money. Back in the ancient world money was livestock so they gave birds, lambs and cows. Today we give money. When it comes to Goddess Haylee you may be giving her time that you fall to your knees, but if you only give her the amount of money you could dig out from between your sofa cushions it’s not very real worship. It may feel real, but it’s doing more for you than it is for her. Your words of worship only become true when you put your money behind them.
